Imo Assembly tasked on PFMB Bill

SENATE1OWERRI—Members of Imo State House of Assembly have been urged to pass the Public Finance Management Bill, PFMB, which has for long
, been yearning for their action. Citizens, who spoke to Vanguard yesterday on the issue, were of the view that if the Bill had been passed into law, the level of transparency and accountability in the management of goods and services in the state would have been enhanced.
Dr. Don Ekechukwu reasoned: “We all desire a people-centred government. This could have been further enhanced if PFMB had been passed into law.” It was the considered opinion of Dr. Ekechukwu that the quest for transparency and accountability in governance begins with putting the right legislations in place.
“If we get it right in public finance management, functions towards achieving value for money and accountability in public expenditure would naturally queue in,” he said. He insisted that if the legislature had passed the PFMB and it had been signed into law by the governor, it would invariably breathe more life into the state’s quest for transparency and accountability.
Imo State Auditor General, Sir Anthony Kamachi, said transparency should be the key word in all public and private transactions. He said: “If transparency is allowed to play a prominent role in all transactions, it would promote integrity.”
